Who we are

British American Tobacco Taiwan was established in 1989.  We are a part of the British American Tobacco Group, the world's second largest stock market quoted tobacco business.

We are the third largest international tobacco company in Taiwan in terms of sales volume: our average market share was approximately 8% in 2008.

We employ nearly 160 people with a head office in Taipei and three area offices in Tucheng, Taichung and Kaohsiung.

Our business includes the importation, distribution, marketing and sale of tobacco products.  On a daily basis some 50,000 retail outlets are supplied with our brands of cigarettes.

Looking ahead

British American Tobacco has been in north Asia for close to a century since operations begun in China and Japan.

In August 2007 British American Tobacco Taiwan joined with British American Tobacco China, Hong Kong and Macau to become British American Tobacco Greater China Area.

Looking ahead, with a strong potential for growth, Taiwan has become a country of strategic investment for the Group in Asia. 

Balanced regulation

We support balanced tobacco regulation that can help to reduce the impact of tobacco on public health and are committed to working with the Government to meet this objective.  We continue to support important tobacco related initiatives, including youth smoking prevention programmes and combating illicit trade.

Our corporate social responsibility programme includes sponsoring the "Restoring Taiwan's Natural Beauty" campaign since 2001.  This programme supports tree planting, works to prevent landslides and fights global warming.

We donated 60,000 saplings between 2001 and 2007 – equivalent to more than 30 hectares of forest in central Taiwan. It is estimated that these trees can absorb up to 30 tonnes of carbon dioxide in 30 years.
